Westchester County Emissions Testing and Alternative Fuels Analysis
Westchester County, New York is a non-attainment area under federal air quality standards. The County was under pressure to take remedial actions to reduce emissions from its fleet of 385 diesel buses. The Westchester County DOT retained TRC to undertake a program of bus emissions tests to evaluate the effectiveness of several potential emissions control strategies. TRC, in partnership with West Virginia University (WVU), was selected by the Westchester County Department of Transportation (WC-DOT) to assist them in determining the levels of emissions reduction attainable from the conversion to ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel and the installation of specific on-board exhaust after treatment devices.
